Story #2 – Residential Outreach Programs

Communities We Serve – Our Residential Outreach Programs

“I think enough of those connections could heal the whole world.”

– John England – Musician Partner

Music for Seniors’ Outreach Programs are a cornerstone of our mission and take place in residential care settings, such as assisted living and memory care communities that many senior Tennesseans call home in their later years. We provide nearly 100 of these communities with live music programs and light up the lives of their residents on an ongoing basis. Currently we facilitate over 120 monthly Outreach Programs with our Community Partners.

We offer our Outreach Programs on a sliding fee scale based on our Community Partners’ ability to pay, which we are able to do with the generosity of our donors. Funding from individual contributions and other sources ensure that we can provide live music programming more often to our Partners who have limited resources.

Our mission is also only possible through the talent and the compassion of our caring Musician Partners, like John England, a 40+ year Nashville professional musician whose band  is a fixture at Robert’s Western World every Monday night.  As one of our most-requested Musician Partners for the past 10 years,  John  says that facilitating Outreach Programs with senior living communities including McKendree Village in Hermitage TN, and Clarendale at Indian Lake in Hendersonville TN, help him appreciate the power of music in connecting people and fostering community.

Scott Rowenczak, Activity Director at McKendree Village, has a great appreciation for the talent and the humanity that our Musician Partners like John share through our Outreach programs.

“The musicians from Music for Seniors always knock it out of the park! The live music makes all our parties more exciting.  Our residents appreciate their talent and their personalities, and the dialogue and interaction are memorable too. John England always has great stories about the music scene, and his jokes are always a hit.” – Scott Rowenczak

While providing dozens of live music programs with Music for Seniors each year, John’s top notch musicianship and mid-western charm (hey he’s from Indiana originally) continue to be the epitome of what our residential Community Partners love about our Musician Partners.

“Music for Seniors has been a great learning experience for me.  I try to give some positive energy and spirit to every group but often leave a program feeling that I received more than I gave.  Music for Seniors program participants have taught me so much about how music can help people connect, in an important way.”  – John England

To support the important work that John does with our Community Partners, regardless of their ability to pay, please consider a donation to Music for Seniors today. The good news is we have a generous match, $1 for $1 up to $25,000 through the end of the year.
