2022: A Retrospective

2022 has been a remarkable year for Music for Seniors. With a full return to in-person, live music programming, we have rebounded to be able to share live music with older adults across the 11 Tennessee counties we serve. Our programs are designed to reduce isolation and loneliness in our older adult participants while also fostering community and interpersonal connections between them, their caregivers and our Musician Partners through the magic of live music.

The majority of our work happens where older adults live – primarily in residential communities across the continuum of care, from independent and assisted living to skilled nursing and memory care communities. We call these programs as Residential Outreach.

2022 also allowed us to resume the full calendar of our FREE Daytime Concert Series, producing 20 free concerts this year in interesting locations throughout Middle and East Tennessee – all sponsored by UnitedHealthcare.

And we were able to reinvigorate our Live Performance Learning Labs this year as well, where older adults were able to learn the craft of songwriting or playing the ukulele under the tutelage of our teaching artists Connye Florance and Donna Frost.

By the end of 2022, we will have shared over 1,400 live music programs with 37,000+ participants across Tennessee!

Additionally, our mission is only possible through the dedication and talent of our amazing Musician Partners, the majority of whom are older adults themselves. As many of them are professional and semi-professional musicians, we offer them a stipend for each of the programs they facilitate with the older adults we serve. By the end of 2022, we will have paid more than $145,000 to support area musicians so that they can facilitate engaging, energizing and quality live music programs.

We have a variety of sources of funding that allow us to serve older adults and our Musician Partners in this way – from fees from communities based on their ability to pay, government grants, corporate and private foundations, corporate sponsorships, and – most importantly – individual donations.

Right now we are in the midst of our 15 Year Fundraising Campaign – and your donations to this effort will allow us to continue to serve older adults across Middle Tennessee and will allow us to grow our reach to impact even more lives!
